What I Wish

What I Wish

A Poem by Dan James

I wish the world was still.

I wish the temperature was just right.

I wish the moon was as bright as your smile.

I wish we were alone in this vast and infinite universe.

I wish silence would encompass us so we could hear each other's heartbeat.

I wish we could stay in each other's arms all day.

But alas,

Your head is a little hot on my shoulder.

Our hands are slightly sweaty.

The music is changing from country to trap.

The moon and the stars are hidden behind the clouds.

There's two other people with us, so I can't kiss your lips.

There's many differences between what I wish,

And what is happening.

However there's two things in common.

You're there.

And I couldn't be happier either way.
