Musicality

Musicality

A Poem by Dan James
"

Inspired by the story of Clive Wearing.

"
The tune starts and I am awake.

The music begins, and I feel alive.
This feeling of euphoria is inside of me.
It rises up and down like the notes of the song.
Yet never dipping below to the dark.

It's like I have Hope.
I'm blind but can hear perfectly.
I can hear the last string of the harp.
It plays over and over, giving me something.
Something.

Better than nothing.
Better than forgetting I have a wife.
Better than forgetting I had a life.
Better than forgetting I...

I...
...

The music is gone.
What's this in front me?
What am I doing here?
Even here, as I ask questions.
I feel myself getting lost.
Lost to the darkness.
The light is fading.
Yet it's still as bright as ever.
It's like being dead.
There's this instrument in front me.
Why not play it?

Oh my!

The tune starts and I am awake.
