Levi

Levi

A Poem by Carly Holtzman

Her fluctuating voice is drowned out by the woods crackling

As he watches the flames burst and pop

Like stars above, visible, a miracle to him.

She talks, he listens, but he doesn’t listen to what she has to say,

He would rather read it in her eyes.

Trace every scar, learn every expression, study every excuse.

He lets her go on, absorbing himself into her words, in all her being.

The chance to be the love of her life may have passed,

But hugging her close, her hair smelling of smoke and fire,

He releases her, and for a brief moment, knows that he will

Always regret not kissing her that night,

By the fire

And under the stars.

this is a great piece. sad and hopeful at the same time. The last three lines are so abrupt, it gives a great twist on the poem. love it :)
