A Pen Passed

A Pen Passed

A Poem by Carly Holtzman

A pen passed between a newly sparked friendship

has the ability to create something beautiful,

possibly unethical.

Secrets are shared, fears admitted, promises made.

Adventures to escape monotony and worries are conjured.

This magical pen is the mother of discovery.

These mini novels prove to be a life raft during

the hurricane of adolescence.

The ink flows smoothly, but the words,

they come with a little more difficulty.

There’s tension between wanting to give yourself away entirely,

and wanting to stay caged up.

These beautiful notes add to your confusion.

This is only a mirage of romance,

But everyone knows it’s fiction.

In all honesty, everyone's life is their own story of fiction. And yes, passing a pen to someone can create something beautiful. Anyone is able to write or create their own story, be it real or made up. As long as your ideas get onto the paper, that is truly all that matters.
