Chapter 1 " Mary Elizabeth Dillford"

Chapter 1 " Mary Elizabeth Dillford"

A Chapter by Mary Robins

"Elizabeth" , a voice called out my name while I was about to get inside my car . I turned and saw my nerd best friend and my neighbor, Ryan Pierce, a 20-year old short guy with black hair and big blue eyes . " Hey Ryan, what's up?", I asked. "Can I ride with you on the way to the school?, if you don't mind of course.", he said. Ryan became my best buddy since I moved here in Tigerville, four years ago. "Okay, hop in." "Thanks!", he said. "So you want to go to the party tonight?", he asked while I was driving, breaking the silence. "What party?", I asked. "Toby's birthday party. You didn't know?" Oh, right, that guy, Toby Princeton, a rich bully guy in school. I really hate that guy for bullying students that don't have the confidence to fight back, including Ryan. "Oh, I forgot... Toby invited me yesterday. Well, I know its rude of me but I don't really want to go. I'm not a party-goer and besides... I hate to be near to that guy!", I said. "Okay!" he said with a smile. We reached the school and I parked the car. We both got out and headed to the entrance, when Toby suddenly blocked our way. "Hey Elizabeth!" he said smiling. "Get out of the way, dude", Ryan declared with an angry look on his face. "Or what?" Toby said facing Ryan with clenching hands. "Stop", I stood between them. " Toby, let us pass, we're going to be late in our class." With a convinced look, Toby step aside. After we reached the hallway, Ryan and I parted ways and went to our classrooms. I entered the classroom hoping that the class has not yet started. Luckily, our teacher, Mr. Burton has not yet arrived. I let out a sigh of relief and proceeded to my desk located in the center. Seconds after I sat, Mr. Burton, a white-haired man, entered the classroom. He went to his desk and put his things under the table and began to speak. "I'm sorry class I'm late, I've been to the principal's office for some business."After that, he immediately opened his thick history book and flipped to a certain page. When he's about to write something on the board, the door flew open. Everyone turned their heads including mine to the guy at the door. Stood there a tall man with black hair wearing white shirt and black pants. He cleared his throat and began to speak, "Is this Mr. Burton's history class?" he asked while looking at the paper his holding and then looked at Mr. Burton. "Yes this is a history class and I'm Henri Burton, and you must be?" The guy approached Mr.Burton, offered his hand and said" I'm Steve...Steve McKnight." Mr. Burton took his hand and they shook hands. "Mr. McKnight, since there is no other vacant seats, you can sit beside Ms. Dillford over there at the center." Steve nodded and walked to the small corridor at the center and then sat beside me. He glanced at me and smiled but I ignored him. After an hour, the bell rang. I stood up, gathered my things and began to walk, then suddenly, a hand grabbed my wrist. I quickly turned around and saw Steve. I pulled my hand and said " can i....help you?""I forgot to ask your name." he said with a teasing smile. " Mary... Mary Elizabeth". "Mary Elizabeth....what a nice name. Elizabeth, would you like to eat lunch with me later?" "Sorry, but I'm off limits....especially to strangers". I hastily walked away from him, I glanced once more at my back and saw him standing there, dumbfounded. My morning classes were over and its about time to have lunch. I went to the cafeteria. After I chose what to eat, I looked around to find Ryan. Right there!, he sat in the left corner beside the window, eating alone. He saw me and a smile appeared in his face. I went to his table and sat there. While we're eating, Toby approached us. "Hello Elizabeth, I just want to ask if you will come to my party?'"Sorry Toby, but I have plans for tonight.""What?, you have a date tonight?" "No, I -----"" Yes",Before I could finish what I have to say, Ryan interrupted. "Yes,she's going on a date" , he exclaimed. I was shocked by Ryan's sudden statement. Unable to speak for myself, he continued " She will date...um...a guy...", he looked all around, unable to find a guy."Hello Elizabeth" suddenly Steve showed up and greeted me. "Him",  Ryan said pointing his finger to Steve.  "Okay....what about me?" Steve asked looking puzzled. "He's the one who will date Elizabeth", uttered by Ryan. "No, he's not." I objected. "Who are you?" Toby asked Steve with an angry look. "I'm Steve McKnight, a new student here." "How come YOU, a new student, got a date with Elizabeth" "Well, because I'm charming and attractive" Steve answered teasingly. I noticed Toby clenching his hand, ready to punch Steve. I quickly stood up and yanked Toby's arm, "Toby, don't, it's not worth it, I'm not going on a d---"" yes you are", Ryan interrupted me again. "Ryan, stop, I'm not going out with anyone,.. ever!"Then, instead of going out to this d********g, why not come to my party Elizabeth.""No, I'm not going either.""Oh, come on Elizabeth, you agreed to have a date with me, remember? Steve said. Without a wordI frantically pulled my bag from the chair and left them. I went straight to my car. I drew my keys from my bag and started the engine. Luckily, I don't have classes this afternoon. Because of what happen I don't think I can concentrate on the lessons.  Finally, I reached my home. I opened the door and went inside. Because of my anger, I slammed the door, tossed my bag on the sofa and headed upstairs, to my bedroom. I slumped my back on the soft bed, I watched the ceiling while thinking what happened earlier. Laying on a bed perhaps a good idea. I started to feel a little bit calm and at the same time I felt sleepy. Unable to control my sleepiness, my consciousness drifted away.
