Separation Anxiety

Separation Anxiety

A Poem by Shannon
"

Love and Worship

"
I find the distance awful
But it’s not the loneliness
That makes me weep like a fool
Nor is it the empty press
Of slender emotions, expressionless
Drifting ghostlike over an ice flow
Whispering softly, tepid… no, less… much less
I hear them in my ear, terrifying and cold
Rising off the hard water
Murmurs, whimpering, and how my eyes burn
In the blowing snow
And water, at there lack of even hollow piety
As if deceit could return
To me what you give
The desire, amor, to even live
Loneliness is for fools
And Earth for the dead
It is divinity that I lose
When we’re apart
And why your absence I so dread

The shadow of love so beautifully rendered here, we too often focus on the heady floral bouquet of twinning or the fetid angst of betrayal. The ice floe metaphor is well landed and expressive though it took me a couple of readings for me to fully appreciate. How could I not admire this gem a few times to capture its facets after such a great conclusion? A delightful read.

a long distance relationship can make us feel that dread of separation...
I sense not loneliness so much as a worry that she will find another to desire...
I start thinking of Terry Stafford's song "Suspicion"
could deceit return?
check line 12..."their"?
this is a most absorbing write...one we do not want to separate ourselves from as readers.

What a chilling, grand piece. It’s executed wonderfully here. It’s entirely beautiful, word for word, hard to find even a favorite line, it’s all breathtaking. This is really, truly a piece I can’t help but admire, there’s so much passion and love in your inspiring poetry. That last line is really fitting and chilling. The visuals in here are mind blowing and gorgeous. Thank you so much for sharing!

Wonderful poetic expression here Shannon. Some first class lines. Divine love. Isn't that something we all seek and yet it is all but impossible to find.
