Niggling Distress:

Niggling Distress:

A Poem by carl
"

To sleep, perchance to dream - Shakespeare

"

Surfacing from spontaneous immersion in

soft glowing embers of layered dreamscapes

trailing black and white ambiguous ribbons

fettered to illusive memory

devoid of color, smell, taste, and touch.

Exposed now to stiff hard edged wavelengths

of randomly invasive cadent thoughts

speculating on light and sound emissions

compared to a possibility of

inherent vibrations in purely physical objects.

Such are the pervading problems presented

on waking and discovering a niggling distress

that what was desired to be discovery

might in reality be a loss

at maintaining a clear foothold on reality.

Carl This poem has a briliant development as if one were awakening from a dream the beginning is a slow awakening to the meaning and I had to rub my eyes and read it again then again to gain grasp on what lay about me. Byt the third reading I thought that I had gained understanding of it but the innitial feeling was lost and like a dream had evaporated. In the rereading like in the awakening from a dream memories and feelings were lost and new ones took shape. A masterpiece well done

I like this one. It reminded me of something I've been studying lately, mainly, harmonics. How sound affects different things differently and how it produces different waves and pulses...the science is a bit beyond me but I understand a little. I like that line from the Bard of Avon. What dreams may come? I think maybe I'm a bit more morose in my latter years considering mortality and all that but I'm too busy to take too much time thinking about dying when there's so much living left to do. This has some great alliteration and descriptions in the lines. It was a pleasure to read aloud. F.
