Fate:

Fate:

A Poem by carl

Fate:

Three sisters in golden dress or ghost veil

with dominant power on a grand display

claiming to be the masters of all that live

whether men or gods, as angelic beings

these children of Nix named by Hesiod

as the same Moirai mentioned by Homer

while sparsely mixed with limited mercy

sway all away from their desired dreams.

No law of necessity shall determine my lot

by these said meticulously necessary maids

whose false collaboration is totally unable

to characterize my existence as insufficient.

The fabric of my life is not spun by Nona

nor measurement made by sister Decuma

to determine the final number of my days

and be cut according to the will of Morta.

With no desire to be considered a great one

and no misconceptions of my many failures

I find all grand illusions to be disappointing

and actually of no true discernible interest.

Some say Fate’s adversary is the human will

but this is as wrong as Fate’s claim to rule all

therefore be gone Clotho, Lachesis, Atropos

for He who controls my all is the Son of Man.

I am not trying to disparage myth, I am an avid reader of myth but I think for me it has its place as does fantasy. Hoping to not offend anyone by my thoughts or beliefs

Is said that myths came to light because Man wanted more than the offers of the day; the imagination was as has always been - greater and wider than the truth known at any particular time in history. You have used knowledge and the published myth with amazing ability - am in absolute awe. Written with great skill and covering an ocean of much suggested, carl. Like the truth of certain nursery rhymes,. myth has its place.

The nuns were gentle but strict. Can still recite quite a lot of this and that!
Wow! What an amazing feat you have accomplished in this very potent and insightful, thought provoking and captivating write, Carl!!! I so agree, that we are the Lords and Ladies of our own fate because as human beings God has gifted us with free will and only we can decide what is right for us. I too love the old myths and legends, but like you, for me they have their place back in time when superstition was rife and enlightenment had not yet dawned. Today we know different and enlightenment has dawned. I love how the only person you allow to control your life is Jesus, Carl. He is The Light and The Way! I love how the poem ends on that note, it's as if you are saying I have my mind made up, this is my choice and nothing or nobody can change that. A truly classic write, Carl and one I have enjoyed reading so very much. Thank you for sharing...

Welcome friend 😊
Beautifully set words that read in such a classical style to accompany the myths of Homer. Clotho, the spinner, Lachesis drawer of lots, Atropos cutter of the thread. All such great metaphors as are all myths. I loved how the tone of the poem changed as you approached the end and it became more biblical. Nicely done my friend.

All those Greek mythologies; gods and goddesses, fates, satyrs, centaurs, nymphs and demigods were interesting to read about and of course they're the subjects of so much classical literature. I like Pyle's, "King Arthur and his Knights" too but I'd hardly take that as a factual account of actual historical events. It's just discernment that reveals the obvious hiding in plain sight. Nicely written, Carl. I enjoyed the read.

Clotho, Lachesis, Atropos are one of my favorite tales of myth. Carl, I like the ancient writers. Create myth and tale for us to enjoy. I roamed Italy often. Seeking artwork or maybe a story. If the three ladies were real. Would be great task to be done today. Thank you for sharing the entertaining poetry.
