Crown of Life:

Crown of Life:

A Poem by carl

Crown of Life:

Unplanned steps of wayward feet

and tempting visions we often meet

easily send us through wrong doors

leaving us stranded on foreign shores.

Amid tangled branch and bramble

where fears bind and worries tangle

constantly accusing shadows vague

reform gold dreams in false brocade.

Life’s tapestry threads then separate

twisting their purpose to instigate

selfish claims coming to their own

like mimes after Sophron’s crown.

Fallen hearts pounding as a gavel

beyond the moon and sun to travel

against the conscience of the Other

echoing like an unknown persona

fearing that mercy will be denied

beg heaven for a safe place to hide.

The garden closed before sundown

requires a more sure way be found

to counter the thief’s coin exchange

and conclude the battle’s final rage.

In ancient blood fresh from the grave

while star courses change their names

before midnight wings unfold in flight

as ascending ravens pass from sight

and coins are placed on closed eyes

for hope’s last dream to be realized.

This ending we have all been shown

agreeing with things already known

yet the crown of life can still be found

within the love book written down.

By all my worldly efforts I could never gain that which is given freely still. Grace. This was beautiful. F.
