What Can I Say?

What Can I Say?

A Poem by carl
"

seems like quotes have taken the place of personal individual thought.

"
Tell me now, has it already been said
am I content to parrot the long dead-
with no new thoughts of my own to be found
just repeating words of those in the ground
like an idiomatic Mimadae
just rephrasing what they had to say-
have I nothing of my own soul to share
or am I hiding my true self in fear.
Can I cut the cord and let it all loose
that would seem better than being obtuse-
to take a stand and just say it all now
then walk away after taking a  bow.

Sometimes words need a great strength when they bear the heavy, silent stories for long. It feels safe to speak indiscriminately in the crowd nowadays because my existence had been treated in this way for long . It is a heartfelt write!
'just rephrasing what they had to say-
have I nothing of my own soul to share
or am I hiding my true self in fear'

How the words and their order touch the soul!

Gee
There are many who Parrot the long dead, some on purpose others not so.
I stick to simple stuff knowing that the more clever folk may well have said what I have written but have done so with words that consist of more than 1 syllable:)

There is that old saying "There is nothing new under the sum" and so it would seem. With the billions of people hear and past it would be difficult to say something new. I used to try to say something new but gave up now being content to state what is in the heart. I loved the wording here
"Tell me now, has it already been said
am I content to parrot the long dead-
with no new thoughts of my own to be found
just repeating words of those in the ground"
Such a nice way to put it. The rhyme fit well and the length of the poem made it to the point.

There is something to be said for originality, for the willingness to experiment beyond long established forms. Walt Whitman showed us that. On the other hand, Ezra Pound urged young poets to "do something new," and the results has been chaos.
