Hi there,
First read of yours and I so enjoyed it.
Quite easy to tell you are educated... English teacher... how wonderful...
When one is creative it can stem out to so many other creative ventures... I too did pottery for years.. now I am a water colonist... At 50 years of age I took up piano for the very first time... So being creative has its perks..
I have never read anything of yours and was delighted to happen upon this poem.
I have absolutely zero training as a poet however, I have been writing since I was 10 years old... Until last year all my handwritten pages were store loosely in a drawer...and then I discovered Writers Cafe...and voila, I am posting..such fun..
I have learned so much in the past year and find that I do enjoy some sort of structure when writing...
I must say that I really love these lines of yours
flooding the scenery with
temporary magic marker comments
written without due consideration
or any planned premeditations
I will be reading more of yours... hoping you have time to read some of mine... You might like Innocence or Miles Apart...or even Forevermore...

Chuckling here... "wordsmithing" IS a rare talent. Even tongue-in-cheek can bow to a linguist that "knows" their craft. This IS fun, no "was" about it.

Can only guess that words are meant to be read with intelligence, instinct or both? As we're all unique in this or that trillion odd ways. so too is our understanding, logic and/or humour. Perhaps?
'.. ground up and spit out
by bombastic poetic linguists
highlighting with great permanence
the pandering acute phraseology
that deep thought is theirs alone.'
How very true.

thank you for your read and review and encouragement, -carl
What a great title Carl. There is much ambiguity in writing these days. I’m not much good at it myself. I tend to say it as it is on the tin rather than in a way which can be read on many levels. I am constantly amazed by the skill and thought given by some reviewers. You know there is a real art in reviewing and I for one haven’t got much past first grade yet :) This poem did make me smile, but its serious side wasn’t lost to me either. You deserve far more than two reviews for this piece.

I agree with you on writing reviews, I struggle with knowing how to express the way in which a piece effects me. I tried for a while responding poetically but felt that could easily be misunderstood so I stopped doing that. I think saying as you feel and understand it is the only way I can write poetry. I worry about being misunderstood but in the end just write as it comes and try to make sense of it over a period of time and then just throw it out there. Asian, thanks for your input. -carl
Just for fun, but really also...that made me laugh as did the poem. I saw the humor (or was it?) in your thought. Who do we think we are but those who can coin a phrase and still have some change left over in our pocket to buy another line or two at that poetic rest stop along the possibility highway of writing. : )
