PrologueA Chapter by J. TylerA brief introduction into the world of Isaac Gray.Prologue-
“It's a boy,” Said the doctor as he handed Amelia her newborn son. “However... there is something you need to know.” Amelia already knew what the doctor was going to say. She knew the moment she saw her little boys face. She wiped a tear from her eye and braced herself for the official word. Her husband, Owen, seemed amused. She had never been so disgusted by him. How could he be happy about this, and what it meant for their family? The doctor shuffled through a few of his papers as he spoke. It was a touchy subject and it surely wasn't easy to have to say this to what was moments ago a happy, soon to be family. “Your son was born with jet black hair, and we can already tell it's going to take on a messy, wavy look as he ages. His eyes are deep blue with a hint of green flakes around the edges, quite frankly they're mesmerizing. On top of it all, he's a beautiful boy with strong features. I'm afraid as he grows up, around his late teens, he will likely become a main character,” the doctor said. Amelia was crying now. Her frustration was only growing with each passing moment. Her husband seemed overjoyed by the idea. “Isn't there anything we can do?” She asked. “Well, he's going to need to be on constant guard. There are all sorts of first episodes out there just waiting to happen. It could come from anywhere. He could seem completely fine one morning, and then come home with a magical girl who needs him to save the world. Symptoms like these can't be treated once they've begun, so you're only option is to keep him away from anything that looks like a pilot episode waiting to happen,” He explained.
The boys father was barely containing his excitement, “... and what if he, hypothetically speaking, WAS to become a main character? What happens then?” He asked. The doctor was clearly taken aback. Why would anyone want that to happen to their own child? “Well...” He cleared his throat, “I suppose anything could, really. The two of you might even find yourselves affected by it. Regardless of what the symptoms are I can assure you that it will prevent him from living a normal life. If you can treat it while he's young, the threat will diminish with age. No one wants an old man main character anymore,” He said. There was a somber silence in the room for all but Owen, who seemed to be plotting. Amelia looked down at her little boy and said, “Don't worry Alec... I'll never let anything happen to you.” “Ma'am, Alec sounds like something a main character would be named.” “Isaac! I meant to say Isaac!” © 2015 J. Tyler |
