While reaching your goal

While reaching your goal

A Poem by Barry S. Maltese

When you assess the values of the things in your world

like the importance of all that is shared.

You might find the greatness of people you've known

through the level of how much they cared.

You will see each time that you reached a goal

by connecting the contributing faces

It is something you must try to never forget

for it is one thing one's ego erases.

For we each like to feel independant and strong

- like we never should need another's hand.

But often in life we need a help up

and many times need help to just stand

It does not make you weak to accept

just as long as you keep trying to give back

For somewhere in you is a talent to share

for a person who somehow might lack

So remember the people who helped in your life

and always be willing to give

For the person you help - might help someone else

who in turn just might help you to live

Nice rhyming and nice message. I like the ambiguity, it makes this poem. With it everyone feels its message.

I could learn a few valuable lessons or two just by reading you, Barry! Excellent work.

It is amazing how many of the old ways were so comforting in the way they tried to keep a balance - help those that you can help. It is a shame that many cultures have changed from respect and reverence, to taking and keeping. . . . Thank you Celtic Cat, for your kindness, and Gandre, for your in depth reflection. Both your opinions were very valuable.

Ah Barry, I missed your spreading of love and understanding. This poem is about communication and empathy, for the old philosophical thought of Chinese, thinking and feeling originated in the same bodily locus. (Well, we don' mean now those greedy Chinese, who ruin the planet ...) and so feeling empathy or compassion as well as rationally abstracting principles and formulating ethical codes were all activities of heart-and-mind they say, xin and xing. this is what makes people happy, your wonderful poem just reminds me.. it's about giving love, not expecting love. this rhyme was flawless. very nice.

Absolutely beautiful. So nice to read positive words in a wonderful cadence that takes me back to where I forget to be. Thanks for reminding us how important we all are to each other. Namaste.
