Onto the field

Onto the field

A Poem by Barry S. Maltese

Onto the field
By Barry S. Maltese

In the air of Competition
We are set to give our all
Doing our best to focus
We must now answer the call
NEVER harboring resentment
For the ones we face today
Cause we know that in this challenge
That we each feel the same way

Giving a Nod to our opponent
We might even shake their hand
We step out onto our battle field
And we boldly make our stand
Giving all we have with honor
They will see us at our best
For we plan to be triumphant
Heads above all of the rest

When our battle here is over
And we’ve finished for today
They shall know what we are made of
As we proudly march away
Though we fought our foes with dignity
We are here to stake our claim
We can achieve our goal of victory
Just as high as we might aim

'Giving all we have with honor

Love it! The piece is perfect. It's upbeat, inspirational, and it flows like silk. The reading, itself, was... well it was fun to read.

There are so many different situations this could apply to. Anyone who reads it could, possibly, think of any number of events when they've needed to shine and act with honor... dignity..sportsmanship... so many things!

Superb write - I enjoyed it, thoroughly :)

I like how you always would weave words and output are lines full of harmony, insight and emotional impact, it's though you speak to my heart concerning his current state. Such a gem, this one. Many great lines. Its beauty moved me tears. Such a visionary example you are.. Favorite. 100 points.

Yes Barry, this one so fits with my idea of a new contest:
http://www.writerscafe.org/contests/Your-Opinion-and-Ideas-on-the-Topic-of-Poetry-Reviews/10691/
I want your strongest opinion on the topic of poetry reviews. Here few ideas:

Are poetry reviews helpful?
What is accomplished by poetry reviews?
Do they help to lift poet’s popularity, do they sell books or is poetry review just a subjective reflexion, just a beauty or the evocation of feeling?
Do poetry reviews keep the art form in line?
Do they spur writers into creating better poetry or kick bad writers out of the halls of Parnassus, the mythological home of music and poetry?
Do poetry reviews help readers or more likely poets?

I've never been in a marching band, but I have taken the field of competition so very many times. Be it football, Debate, or MY FAVORITE Baseball - where I took home MANY victorious trophies. This poem came from my discussions with you, and people in the band, and my own personal experience. Sorry that you feel I missed the mark, but I thought that I was there.
