Beneath the shining Armor

By Barry S. Maltese

Some people often gaze at me

at what they've seen me do

Yes, I've helped out so very many

. . . maybe, even you!

Examining all my exploits

you'd contrive an enchanting list

But there is still a side of me

that is often forgotten and missed

For I have many weaknesses

my character has it's flaws

They all are buried by those reviews

of my many victorious wars

But, I guess my attempt at seeing them

is the first step that I must take

in fixing what is wrong with me

if only for my own sake

I might not be personally dangerous

to those both near or far

And I do not consume illicit drugs

like your favorite movie star

But there are parts within my life

that I am not proud are there

and I now vow to vanquish them

for the sake of the ones who care.

Everyone should take this kind of time to examine themselves. We all have our faults and our weaknesses.. the thing that differentiates some from others is that recognition...that desire to better oneself inside. Sure the outside might be a pretty picture, but the inside is what makes a person truly beautiful... The struggle, the constant work on self, the act of caring enough about yourself...not for the sake of yourself , but for the sake of others and the effect you have on them... priceless and a definite rarity in this world.

Each stroke of your pen (or keyboard) paints you as a person with a good, true heart... despite any "chinks" in the armor.. you ARE the shining armor.

And this write shines a light on your talent - Loved it :)

We, as humans, are flawed and the fact that you can put it in writing shows that you are growing as a person and as a writer. It's hard to admit we're not perfect, but it does endear us to those who know us best!

Nobody is perfect, and when an aspect of ourselves causes others hurt, harm or worry, its time to wise up and change it. This poem will by my mantra for the month... others should adapt it too. I dont know what inspired it in your life, nor should anyone need to... but if we all look hard enough, it is the same for us all.

We all have these dark corners in our lives Barry...those I suspect yours still have a glint of sunshine in them since I refuse to see you as anything but the kind man you've always been to me. And yes I know you're human, but you're one of the good ones in my book. :)

Honestly, It's one of the best poems I've read recently. Common words, common structure but so effective and deep meaning within it. You live in the opposite side of the world in a different culture & society but your poem seemed as if written by me! Great poem I'm adding it as one of my favorites.

Just adding a note to this: For the child of God, we must always look inward for it is Him that we must seek to please and no one else, and if we are right with Him, that is what matters. This is a marvelous confession and healthy to look within and let God do what needs to be done, within. A loving Father corrects His children! But, I LOVE how HE ALWAYS does it in love and doesn't condemn or load us with false guilt and condemnation.

Blessings Always, Carole

This is so beautiful. I can truly relate to it. You know, I think that is true of all of us. I believe we all have weaknesses. But, very few admit it. We all have flaws we have to work on fixing. The best thing, I think, is for us to fix those flaws for ourselves. Not for anyone else.

Wow, this is very deep and heartfelt. Barry, I believe we all have that part of ourselves that no one sees, and it somehow makes us seem weaker. But with God by our sides we can overcome most anything that this life throws our way, my friend.

Barry, you write such a harmony I adore the rhyme.
Oh yes, you helped always. You are a great friend.
And, such a love spreading writer with even more.
