Big

Big

A Poem by kdbryant

it’s 2:56 am and i hear her smile
through her voice as it stutters
across the phone line.

it’s a thursday morning
and she’s yawning for coffee
while all i need is the sight of her
to wake up to a dream.

autumn, and leaves scatter the ground
and it feels so good to have her
stay instead.

a hot afternoon and her t-shirt
hugs her skin like guilt
just enough to make you wish
it wasn’t there.

the ponds at the backs of her knees
her face when its intruded by a sneeze
the way her palms collect her laughter
and the fire place in her eyes the moment after

how she says my name
like she knows it’s really there
how she meets my gaze
and tosses her hair

her hand slipping over mine
in a gentle glove,
it’s the little things
that big this love

It's weird, I generally advoid/dislike/try to have nothing to do with poems that rhyme. But to me, the last half of the poem where it rhymes was my favorite part. the metaphors are creative and different, i really enjoyed this.

"the ponds at the backs of her knees"

good stuff, keep writing!
