Insomnia

Insomnia

A Poem by kdbryant

I feel estranged
from my dreams tonight,
with thoughts tangling my mind
as anxiously as cocaine
seeping through my veins.
My heart murmurs - awake,
and I can hear
even my bones rattle in my
hyper-conscious-state.
I search for a source of peace
within my periphery,
and I look over
at the way the moonlight
casts a ribbon over your face "

and I suddenly want to
meditate
on you.

Your breath hangs delicately
in the air like lingerie
drying beneath the sun.
It’s a wonder how your eyelashes
flutter so fluidly, as if your dreams
have wings, gliding in and out
of this world. And when my fingertips
touch the flush in your cheeks,
I tremble with a sense of gratitude,
realizing that sleep may elude me tonight,
but the universe has given me you
the angel
dreaming by my side
