Artists

Artists

A Poem by Angad Waraich
"

Dive again and again into the river of uncertainty. Create in the dark, only then can you recognize the light.

"

ARTISTS

Who are we, but heartbroken fools,

Bleeding crimson like ink, onto sheets of white and grey.

Seeking to escape our pain…

We end up immortalizing our misery,

Through songs, sonnets and ballads that sing of our insanity.

I don't know. I'm more Hemingway and Jack London. I seek beautiful places and enjoy time with family. Writers do need sadness, tear and joy, happiness. Good writers watch and observe their world. Be involved and love often, dance everyday and write with a honest pen. I want the sea and travel. I have grandchildren and debt. Life is fair. I'm safe where I stand. Writers must test life. Stand for the right things and don't believe in the naysayers. Thank you for sharing the poem. We do need ballads. Ballads of kisses and life lived.

Love the way you described an artist.
Its deep, full of meaning and emotion, and also very true.
It is true that an artist is an emotion person. Our way of getting our emotions out and expressing our feelings, is through our art.
And this piece of art is great.
Well done :)

Thank you for dropping by.
misery and suffering are the foodstuff of poets, we need to suffer for our art but just once in a while some sunshine will escape our gloomy hearts and create great works of art too, thanks for your work Angad, its a great poem :)

Thank you Emily.
this is such a powerful piece of work, it is short, but your choice of imagery is strong, and those who have experienced heartbreaking, soul shattering pain can relate and create a clear image whilst reading the poem.

Thank you so much.
I read this and thought, this is going to become very subjective. Asking artists to comment about artistic development. I even thought it in third person as I see myself as an IT technician that likes writing. Never in a million years I would give the answer if asked : "I'm an Artist". Nevertheless I feel invited to at least exemplify how I feel about it. After a bit of a struggle intellectualy speaking. I have always related to the image of The Raven standing on the Artists door. Is that bearing witness? I'm just not sure but then it brough back what I used to read to my son with great candor:

Dear Lord nowadays around here everything must be quoted and properly recognized otherwise.... It reminds me of University...

Roud Folk Song Index number of 7734:

"A wise old owl sat in an oak
The more he saw the less he spoke
The less he spoke the more he heard.
Why can't we all be like that wise old bird"

Thank You.

Thank you rene . Your input is appreciated as always.
This is so relatable and true, for many of us. I like that you are honest, and introspective with yourself. Very insightful poem. :) Keep writing! It's what writers are good at - evoking and expressing, releasing emotion and creating a feeling all at the same time. It's not just an exercise for us, or something that we do to understand ourselves better - its a part of who we are - we are writers, unified by this one thing in common. We are sensitive, observant creatures, that want to be heard, understood, accepted, have a voice - that will do great things, amazing things to this world. We want to change the world in some small way that makes a huge impact. My point: We writers, are misunderstood people because of this, but that's okay that's what made us writers in the first place. :)

Wow, such a positive writing. I loved it but am laughing. Read aloud to my husband, if we would seek that light, instead of the darkness, I do wonder how the world would change. It is the light, not the darkness that we seek the most: Marianne Williamson. Think you did a phenomenal job summarizing The Artist. What a life. Thank you and great writing.
