The Sun and Moon

The sun chases the moon…

As the legend says the sun was glowing with pride…

His ego large as the forbearing blue sky.

Yet, there was one thing his gloating couldn’t get…

The shy silver moon who came out while he slept…

She would play with the stars waiting to leave once he awoke.

This angered the glowering sun…

And he began to chase the moon so she would be his as well…

The moon fled with fright knowing nowhere to hide.

The stars spoke out to their mother…

Use us and the night sky we will shield you from the sun…

And when he gives up we will allow you out again.

So the moon twisted the threads of the night sky...

And they in part slowly began covering her…

Until piece by piece she slowly disappeared into the depths of black.

The sun realizing his beautiful prize was gone…

No longer did the night shine with her grace…

It was dark empty and cold this saddened his gloated heart.

Come out Moon he called as he went to sleep every night…

I promise I will stop chasing you…

Just please come out and once again shine so bright.

Slowly the moon untangled herself from the night that concealed her…

Until piece by piece she glowed once again happy in the night sky…

Her happiness didn’t last because the sun forgot his promise and chased her once again.

So it goes like a merry-go-round…

The endless circle of love and hate…

The sun chases his moon until the ends of time.
