When the World Turned Dark

When the World Turned Dark

A Poem by Pyrrha Rayn

She slowly approached

Each step growing heavier and heavier

She didn't want this path

She had no desire to traverse it

But still it guided her

To this twisted grin

They tilted their heads

Watching her

She matched with a steady glare

The innocence inside her

Growing with despair

She took another step

Listen to the demons scream

Or become a monster to mute them

Two choices

She knew the one to make

She took another step forward

She could hear the memories whispering to her

Trying to make her to stay

But she refused to listen

And kept pushing forward

Deeper and deeper into the gnarled briars

The sun forbear to shine on her

The sweet scent of roses diminishing

The creature crept forward

Its body awkwardly assembled together

It laughed a bloody laugh

The black ink from its mouth curling around her

Consuming all that she was

Until she became one of them

A beauty on the outside

That housed a blackened monster

Skin deep on the inside
