She WaitsA Poem by Pyrrha RaynLittle girl waiting for her dadBy that big bay window The young one sits Her hair pulled back As strands dance across her face She stares out into the warm sunshine But she doesn't feel it caress her face She stares at the bleak road Waiting to hear the vehicle Her mom has given up her post But she shall wait diligently Do you see her sitting there? Her legs swinging back and forth Her large eyes filling with a new found emotion The feeling of lost hope She turns her head Hoping it's his vehicle She leans forward Her toes dancing across the wooden board But a different car drives by And she sinks back down The weight of the world holding her there She curls her legs up to her chin As small tears fall down her face A pain she would learn to endure For the rest of her life Maybe someday he'll come She keeps thinking All she knows Is when it grows to dark for her to see Is when mom will come for her And she'll have to abandon her post But her eyes see no rest For she'll lay awake and listen For the comfort of his heart and his breathing Waiting for the day When daddy calls her name For now She sits And she will wait
