Little Mermaid's Tale

Little Mermaid's Tale

A Story by Invisible Ink
"

A truer version of H. C. Andersen's dark tale

"

As she lay dying

becoming one with the sea

hair floating like waves

skin turning to foam

heart becoming a coral mass

in which the fish would swim

blood washing out

from veins of seaweed

she remembered warmth

like ice melting glacier

love to warm and to chill

fever, passion, anger, pride

which she resigned

to a thankless witch

because she could not hide

that beating drum

inside her breast

yet, he could not hear

beyond the dumbness

of her mouth to speak

he could not see

inside those eyes

the truth beneath

which she gave away

for just one kiss

for her only wish

little mermaid,

one part human

one part fish

Thanks friends for the reviews. I always loved the story of the little mermaid and was disappointed when Disney gave the heart-wrenching tale a happy ending.
