World War OneA Poem by Craizzethe feeling of warLaden with heavy weapons While people are drowning next to me Off to fight in a war My little sister’s boyfriend lied to get in To be heroic for his lady, only thirteen years old I miss my family and friends; I thought that this would be an adventure But it’s nothing but a cold, hard war People are shot down next to me But I must pass them by Later to move them into piles Waiting for their families to know When they get a sheet of paper in the mail Huge, cold droplets of rain hitting every part of our bodies As I trudge through the trenches with my stomach growling Surrounded by such a stench it cannot be named Filled of unwashed people, human filth, and rotting flesh Swallowed by bodies Rotting and mangled from the war in which they fought We shoot our guns aiming to kill What is this place without peace? A place filled with terror and determination We are killing our neighbors People some of us know…or knew How many more must die for us to realize That this is not the answer? When will it end, this fight, we fight? Will it even be the last? © 2010 CraizzeAuthor's Note
