Valentine

A Poem by Charles Phifer

On cupid day I’ve tried to make her hands warm with some soft plush, but you need money for these things. I look in my pockets and pull out a 5. I look at the thing and it says $12.99. As usual, I am short too much. I tell her she has a holiday of her own with her name and everything. Every year will be her day. But I wonder if I say this out of importance, love, or convenience.
