Polite Society

Polite Society

A Poem by Oydrin

Forgive my utter sarcasm!
Not because it is wrong,
But for the sake of your polite society,
As unreal as it often accuses

For it becomes exhausting,
When manners are mere methods
Of meaningless banter
And lame excuses;

And anti-social behaviour
That I need not be sorry for,
Given the multitude
Of attendant circumstances

By which I am compelled
To conduct myself falsely
And stiffly, for being
Appropriately dressed

So don't get me wrong
As some friends often do,
On this rarest
Of rare occasions

When in justification
For things quite much known,
I have long since
Run out of good reasons

For being away
Every possible way
When I'm able,
I'm willing for reasons,

To be told that I'm
 Being too much of myself
In this tempers of
Ever changing seasons
