American Cowboy

American Cowboy

A Poem by lee von cleef
"

New York Girls.....

"
I think I'll go back to wearing my hat,
I had hung it up,
Now it is time to let my country side shine,
New Yorkers love it,
Turning heads from 81st to Pen station,
Boots wranglers, buckles, belt,Pearl snaps,
Western ,
All head up,
Smiling at the dimples smiling back ,
a mental time machine,
Their minds swirl, slow to slice the moment
Of a man out of place,
Real Authentic, sage, wind burnt, outside
Astride their thoughts,
Rodeo, has come to Madison Square Garden.
Wild freedom, The west, lights their senses, saying:
"Yes we are American"

I can just see that cowboy strutting down Madison Avenue. or Broadway in high western style, having the city gals all flustered in actually being able to recount that All American Sight they would like to see again!
Ah, the rodeo in all its grandeur done come in from the plains and the hills and vales of the west to show those city slickers just how grand they always have been!
Love the imagery you share with us - Yes Sir - ALL AMERICAN!!!!!!!

You speak of contrast, a welcoming contrast. It is beautiful and natural when others can spot and appreciate someone different and unique in their world. yet knowing all along this wonder was in your world right there within arms length, to begin with.

Well done lee. This poem was well constructed, felt just right

For you me and the cloud.
I love it. I could see the cowboy against the backdrop in NYC. They should clash but they don't because although we are different in some ways we are all Americans. Loved your author's note...Buck and Who eh?

New york, what a city, to have enough $ just to eat then be a roman and eat again !
'Their minds swirl, slow to slice the moment - Of a man out of place,- Real Authentic, sage, wind burnt, outside - Astride their thoughts, Rodeo, has come.. '

For me it's those words that tell the tale, that put time and feelings in a place to remind folk how things were and should be, how they need hauling back and treasured.
