Elk City, Smaller then Small

Elk City, Smaller then Small

A Poem by lee von cleef
"

58 years, the Chosen

"
Smaller then small, all is connected,
I think of a Banker Bob Allee,
Old he chose to sit alone,
His back against a ceder post
Holding up a four strand barbwire fence,
There in his foreground the oil-well that shook the ground,
When he was young,
The one that gave him a jump start,
Raining black drop's,
The ground raising with the pipes intrusion ,
Two daughters one away ,
Oh she could dance and sing and crop a tail,
The other,a quiet sweater camouflaging her bold.
They did not find Dad till the next day,
But He was happy in his end.
Watching the well that filled the red of ranching.
Placing his trust in the hand
His wife of 58 years
Reached through a Beckham county sunset
To bring him home.

Author's Note

lee von cleef
Smaller then small, every day we learn of something where there was once nothing ,string theory , positive negative ,black holes, and silence, a live rabbit or dead rabbit in the closed box, just loosen the bonds of perspective a reality is just a math problem away from truth. Inspiration gained from a poem of Ken Simm's " Completing his partial mind" The world only exists when it is observed. A love song.

Indeed, one thing leads to another and everything is connected. Each action has a consequence in life. Reminds me of a children's story, "The Velveteen Rabbit" who was only real after a boy loved him. If we do not drink in our surroundings, do they exist at all? Wonderful poetry! Lydi**

I'm so glad I do not have to crop a tail :) I love the way you make this your own and the ending is perfect, all we need now is a fire-side harmonic and old troubadour and a pot of coffee.

schrodingers cat - he's dead until i see him. observations complete the circuit. and the circle is just a line that ended with its beginning. i have read ken's "partial mind" and enjoyed it thoroughly. which is the beauty of it all when one inspired work begets another - cheers to you lee!

I love the "everything is connected" aspect of this one...the idea that what is small to one is enormous to another, and yet, we are all tied together in this world; this odd and strange ecosystem. If one aspect fails, all fails in a way. In telling these stories, as poets, writers, painters, we ellucidate the importance of "being". Well written...very much enjoyed this one.

Lee, not sure why I haven't found you before, love this piece. While we are left to guess the full story I have amazing images of an old man passing, dying where he chose to be looking at the land that gave him his living. In a few lines we also learn of a loving family with 2 daughters. Indeed a wonderful love story.

58 years of marriage, makes you wonder if time lets them stay together ?
Oh she could dance and sing and crop a tail,
that's a stellar line.
