Soul

Soul

A Poem by lee von cleef
"

Live a ripe,raw,more relevant life.

"

I wish it were a knight mare of mescal

Mean menopause

But broken says it all

Sorrow stains tumble into the void around us

Her heart floats above the feather

Hollow deep wavy blue throaty emotional empty

Perspective embraces, we wish for

Mean menopause, a nightmare of mescal

Time defies logic and yours

Is not the only view

Of hell on the mountain

Drop the telescope and climb, climb the rope

Climb, three points contact, methodical, fluid, purpose

Reach down, form follows function

Function

She said, “thank you in advance”

She said, “Breathe with your soul”

She wrote, “forget me after I’m gone”

In two days she was going to be

A southern biscuit sopping up a plate

Full of Hawaii

Eight minutes ago, eight miles ago

Authentic alive an accolade of life

A funeral is like what should have been a five-month

Planned wedding

Compressed into four days

Boxed and compacted with only our vitals showing

Especially so when “how are you today sweetie?”

Is our twenty-five year old

Blonde worker bee

Pain shared is pain lessened

Courtney Marie Darnell died June 5th at approximately 4:15pm

Six days shy of twenty-six

The afternoon “microburst” maps out pretty

Deliberate;

Just over a little rise headed south on highway 5 into Hot Springs, Arkansas

A tall pine falls straight across the road stopping a car in front of Courtney’s truck.

A tall pine falls straight behind Courtney’s truck, blocking retreat.

A tall pine falls at an angle taking out the cab and Courtney.

No skid marks.

A stout breath, thunder, and she’s gone,

Eight moments later, eight moments earlier... If those moments could just be redrawn, retracted, relived... But life can never be and so we live on and share our pain like this, piercing heartfelt write of yours. And try to breathe. And try to feel them still there. This was chilling Lee. I'm so sorry for Courtney...

There are no words to offer here. Only silence, and a hope that you know I stood here for a moment, just catching my breath, feeling the heat of the sun on the back of my neck. Staring out into the desert... looking for something that is not there, but looking just the same. And beside me beat the hearts of a thousand more just like me. All of us... standing silent. Holding on. Prayers. Whispers. Thoughts. All to honor the memory of the one who still lives right here, in your words.

Sadness rarely comes as heartbreaking as your words. Dear friend, my prayers, arms and thoughts can't ever cure or help but, look to the stars .. hers is the brightest.

When I was a girl my mother offered to kill us both as we were driving down the road. So many times she threatened me that she was going to kill herself. And I always swore that I would never get to that place. But I did. I wonder if it is generational, genetic, cyclical. How do I break the chains?

Congratulations, you managed to weight more anchors upon my stomach (that being a good thing, of course . . .), hehe. I love every word of this, though you struggle to hold my attention when you start, you have every inklet of my being searching into it. If I fail to make sense, my apologies.

I can now see what you are about and why your poetry burrows so deeply into ones soul as it is read.
SORRY doesn't cut it but it is the only word that fits. I'm so sorry my dear man!
I lost a dear niece four years ago and she definitely IS more present, also, than ever before. BUT young is made to beget more young not die midway. It all hurts for so long.

This has a frantic and breathless sort of feel to it. I don't know how you do that.

My heart broke reading you. Thank you for sharing something so alive..and so personal. I'm so sorry that such tragedy inspired this beautiful poetry. God bless her soul. What a lovely tribute.
