the strip

A Poem by brianna vega

plagued with dreams
all i want is sleep hallucinate in this desert heat
tumble weeds make my bed
sticking into my skin with dried twigs
the mountains loom over watching in thier bruised glory
the city pumps and floods the streets
with travelers and drunks
and families unaware
the casinos pump straight oxygen and smoke into our lungs
they pour alcohol down our throats masked by colorful ice and potions
so we walk
into anothers arms
with out much hesitation
i walk alone on these crowded streets
listening to musicians sing thier hearts out to the beats
leaving with a five dollar bill handed over by a drunk
who never understood the message
i walk alone
with cranberry and vodka juust trying to make an honest friend
oh where are the open smiles?
the eyes that dont lie
oh where are the hearts that pump to reggae blood
i hear so many cries so many unfinished lies
