desert girlA Poem by brianna vega
the heat over takes me
as the suns rays pours over my body extracting my energy like a greedy lover i lay here motionless defenseless willing the cold night is my domain my territory im wrapped in solitude while this suburban city sleeps the land speaks of memories when this town was a dairy land occupied by cows and fields it no longer holds any resemblance this was once my great grandmothers home my mother once played in this very yard as a child lived some years in this very town the houses change but its always the same states the same citys the same faces and names texas new mexico california were a desert people i need an escape from this heat this dust these violent rays beating down from the sun my greedy lover. © 2010 brianna vega |
