birthday.

birthday.

A Poem by brianna vega

he sat silent at the edge of the bed
empty glass in hand
chocolates and candles filled the tops of every table in the room
it was her birthday
she showed up to share dreams and sheets with him
but by the end of night he was completely drunk as usual
he left her alone in the room for hours at a time
at one point he came back in
threw every candle every chocolate to the floor
hate flooding his eyes
and internal fire
he was raging war with him self once again
and she layed there
silent on the bed watching
pretending her heart was numb to this
pretending the shattering of his empty glass in the other room didnt bother her
pretending it didnt matter that it was her birthday
he wouldnt sleep next to her tonight.

Wow! So full of pained emotion and dashed numb hopes. :) I think the loose/free format really works for the seemingly real life scenario.
My favourite lines were the opening ones, i think they created the scene very well. The characters feel real. :)
