Safe

Safe

A Poem by brianna vega

I've never felt so calm
The dread of what came next always plagued my mind
Each time worse than the next
I acted strong but I shut off in fear
I was closed
Closed to my thoughts frozen
I forgot to grow

You came in
And slowly watered
Gently tendered
Sat back and watched me grow

I still stay up all night
But when your awake
That's when this soul can lay
You watch me dream

This poem is in three sections, which tackle different stages; presumably of a romantic bond or close friendship perhaps. The first verse speaks of uncertainty, in addition to dread and "fear"; by a protagonist who appears to be mentally withdrawn. Then, verse two shows how nurturing helps the protagonist to open up and develop; along with being "watered" like a plant or flower growing. And, an onlooker watches over her. Finally, verse three made me think of contentment and rest; as the protagonist has found comfort in being watched over at night (by her protector).? However, he is somehow able to watch her "dream"; even though she needs to be "up all night" for that to happen? Possibly, verse three is slightly confused; unless trying to imply that the protagonist's protector is able join sleep's dream world with her (in some kind of mysterious way). Thanks for sharing, and keep on writing. I accept "read requests" here, as well.
