A Screenplay by Corri Esther
"

This is the opening scene of Get the Foreigner, an original drama I'm working on. Rachael is an ordinary school girl who's only desire is to blend into the background.

LAST DAY OF SCHOOL
EXT. CASTLE GATE " NIGHT
The NARRATOR is heard but not seen.
NARRATOR
There was a time when noble knights fought for the honor of their country.
Tensions are high as a silver knight rides up on a white horse in front of an eerie medieval castle. WHOOSH, she dismounts of the horse with a grand flip. The metal armor CLANKS as her feet land on the ground. The knight has a moment too breathe, but this is short lived. SCREAMS of terror come from within the castle. The knight quickly takes foot in towards the castle.
EXT. CASTLE COURTYARD " NIGHT
The knight runs through the court yard filled with gremlin-like statues. Just before she reaches the door, two large ferocious dogs begin cut her off. She takes a step back as the dogs begin to close in on her. She exhales a breath of irritation. She points at one dog and begins to charge it; it charges back. She side thrust kicks the dog right below the head, turning her body away from the other dog. At the same time, the other dog charges at her from the behind. The knight performs a perfect spinning back kick and kicks the dog in its side. Both dogs lay on the floor injured. They get up and face the knight appearing to be ready to attack. However, they run off instead. The knight proceeds to run into the castle doors.
INT. CASTLE " NIGHT
The interior of the castle is a large open room. As soon as the knight reaches the middle of the room, she hears another SCREAM, this time coming from on top of the castle tower. She darts up the large stone stair well.
NARRATOR
These knights risked their lives going on valiant quest to save the lives of others.

EXT. CASTLE TOWER
The nearly exhausted, the knight reaches the top of the tower and is confronted by an awful sight. A large dragon holds the screaming girl in its grasp. The dragon ROARS and clenches the girl tighter. The knight draws her long sword and charges at the dragon. With a swoosh of his hand, the dragon knocks the knight to the ground. The knight’s helmet is knocked off revealing RACHAEL, her pale face, bright blue eyes, and long blonde hair. Rachael looks at the helmet on the ground next to her and picks it up. Instead of putting it back on, she throws the helmet at the dragons face. This distracts the dragon only momentarily, as she rises to her feet and takes a fighting stance.
RACHAEL
(Raising her sword)
For the honor of my family and country, you will bow!

INT. SCHOOL CLASS ROOM " AFTERNOON
Children are laughing as RACHAEL sits up at her desk with her arm raised high like a knight holding a sword. She is wearing a sweat suit and is dressed like a slob. Her long blonde hair is pulled into a ponytail and looks like it hasn't been brushed for days. The TEACHER stands at the front of the room.
NARRATOR
That time has long since passed.
TEACHER
(Walks over to Rachael’s desk)
Oh miss Rachael, good to see you’re awake. Perhaps you’d like to take part in the class discussion.
RACHAEL
(Lowers her arm realizing what she must have just shouted out loud)
Um … I’m sorry what was the question?
TEACHER
Nature versus nurture. Do parents’ actions have an effect on their children’s behavior?
RACHAEL
Uh … I think children should be responsible for their own actions. It’s not the parents fault if a child’s rebellious.
TEACHER
Yes, very good. I guess I won’t punish you for this little outburst. I feel the reactions of your fellow students will be punishment enough.
The teacher goes back up to the board and continues to teach the class. Rachael covers her face with her hands and places her head on the desk. The other students continue to snicker.
TEACHER
That’s all for this lecture. Don’t forget your test will be this week. You shouldn't have too much of a problem with it, if you've been paying attention in class.
The bell RINGS, and the students begin to leave. As Rachael is packing her stuff her best friend SARAH walks over to her. She is dressed far better than Rachael.
SARAH
(To Rachael)
For the honor of your family and country?
RACHAEL
Was it really that bad?
SARAH
Yeah if I were you, I’d change schools …
I’m kidding. But it was pretty pathetic.
RACHAEL
Whatever. Hey, you want to come over tonight?
SARAH
Nah, not tonight, my mom wants to get my prom dress tonight, and I have to study for the test tomorrow.
RACHAEL
What test? In here? I swear he never told us about it.
Sarah points to the white board that has test Tuesday written on it. Rachael moans and places her head back on her desk.
SARAH
Right, call you latter then? Bye
RACHAEL
(Pathetically)
Bye.
Sarah leaves Rachael.
INT. SCHOOL HALLWAY RACHAEL’S LOCKER" AFTERNOON
RACHAEL opens up her locker. It is filled with video game posters. She takes out her books and closes her locker.
