I believe addiction to anything is more of a tendency than a set regimen; more of a proclivity than a necessity. Of course there is the physical withdrawal from certain drugs but there is no withdrawal from habit. Everything we lose must be replaced by something. We cannot abide, no more than nature, a void. Which is why so many fail in giving something up...they don't replace it with anything else. A cigarette smoker might chew gum to quit but then give up the gum and return to smoking. So I believe habit needs changing and not extinguished. If one could take every destructive habit and form a constructive habit from it, the result would be a more productive lifestyle and a happier life. Not an easy thing to do but sometimes it is a matter of life or death.

Insight is gained at a price. I have paid mine over the years. But what's the saying? If you want to dance with the devil you have to pay the piper? It's not so much wisdom as experience. I'm now in my sixth decade on this earth and if I've learned nothing else it is that life is full of all sorts of experiences.
