The Numbers

The Numbers

A Poem by Julesy

I don't believe in heaven

I don't believe in hell

There is no place deeper

than the darkest deepest well

I don't believe in heaven

I don't believe in hell

I have many ideas

But I can't explain them well

I don't believe in after

I don't believe in before

Everything is in the middle

Falling between the dells

I don't believe in always

I don't believe in forever

Forever will be broken

And always, is a grisly spell

The only thing I believe in

Are numbers one by one

I see them all around me

The torture me so well

I see the numbers ticking away, slowly on the clock

I see the numbers look at me, filling me with shock

The numbers weigh my value

They weigh what I'm not proud of

They weigh what I've never loved

They weigh too much of me

As I try to take it all away

I see the numbers day by day

Scaring me, but I still stay

I see the numbers, 3 digits

I must get to 2

They must go down 1 by 1

Until I can finally see

The body really trapped in me.
