CartwrightA Poem by AustinA bit of symbolism wrapped up in old memories. Intended as a song with the first and last bits having an Irish sound (following the theme of a castle) and the odd middle bit being contemporary rock.
I miss the days that were merry and light
Before I knew trouble, before we took flight I miss the castle, it stood such a sight It was once the palace we knew as Cartwright Younger souls and younger days Younger worries and younger dismays Younger fears and younger plights When lived the Castle we knew as Cartwright Birds sang a high tune as younger birds chattered "Long live the kingdom" before they all scattered But came intruders, their feet pitter-pattered No on suspected, as nothing had mattered Once was such a simple phase On went the merriment for endless days But times were changed and dark hid light And neared the ending of kingdom Cartwright One rainy day The guards left the kingdom On came the siege The castle fell down Long live the king! In some foreign country His followers fled Forever to frown Those yonder souls and yonder days Replaced by life's cruel fate and dismays Yonder older ways of life Fell with the kingdom, the castle Cartwright I dreamt of the castle just the other night I remembered the kingdom and cried for a sight But I miss the birdsong, the spirit and light Long live the kingdom, the kingdom Cartwright! © 2012 Austin |
