A Brief Stroll Down a Long Trail of Memories

A Brief Stroll Down a Long Trail of Memories

A Story by Austin

Walk with me, please,

down the lane of our memories.

The first time I ever saw you,

Something about you stood out.

Times have changed since that day,

But now we should head out.

From the first time I made you laugh,

I've known a brillinat smile.

This memory I hold dear to me,

Let's walk another mile.

I was doing homework,

The first time I texted you.

Now keep walking onward,

Is just what we should do.

Talking to me while doing homework

Late at night helped keep you sane.

Please, let's keep walking,

I'm starting to feel the pain.

Upon the day of May the eighth,

We had a friend-takes-friend-out date.

The cramping is increasing now,

We must move forward and not be late.

Later in our friendship,

You told me about Ron.

Let's not spend much time here;

Let us please move on.

When you and him went separate ways

I helped you as best as I could.

My heart is starting to throb now,

Please hurry, if you would.

Later on I let our friendship

Lower down my guard.

We should be running now,

The throbbing's getting hard.

My heart was filled with joy

Anytime I spoke to you.

The pain nearly overcomes me now.

Oh what am I to do?

When we were at the climax,

the highest point, the peak.

Just when I picked up the courage

and got the nerve to speak.

You finally decide to tell me

who your heart does seek.

Then all of a sudden my perfect plan

is looking kind of bleak.

How do I handle this?

Which words am I to speak?

I'm left feeling oh-so bad.

I'm feeling oh-so meek.

And now my heart falls to the floor,

It has a darkened streak.

My heart simply stops beating now,

Oh how my luck does reek.

Somewhere between life and death

your shadow speaks to me.

"Look into the horizon.

What exactly do you see?"

I look out and see valleys filled with

grasses and with trees.

"There's a very large world out there.

Why worry over me?

You have much potential,

Much more than being with me.

Do not be disheartened.

There are plenty of fish in the sea."

And every word of your message

Rung true to be.

Although, always in my memory,

You shall be.

So my heart started beating,

Like the lightswitch just turned on.

And even though it was still in pain,

Slowly I moved on.
