Detached

Detached

A Poem by Austin
"

Venting

"
Sometimes I think I've found someone...
...someone like me.
Then I open my eyes
          and realize
there's nobody out there quite like me.

When you're just a kid
people tell you you're unique
                and special.

When you get older
      unique starts to mean different
and special fades away with the years.
All that's left is you,
                       knowing,
There has to be someone like you.

Then you realize something.

The one who understands
         is lost far, far away,
         because there was a time
    when mistakes were made.

It's like a lonely puzzle piece,
     sitting there, alone, forgotten,
          and you tell yourself,
               and they tell you,
                    "Someday..."

It's always "Someday..."

And you know you sound like
    every other teenager,
And you know there has to be a solution,
or at least that's what you tell yourself.

You tell yourself
       "Someday..."
but that never helps.

You try to take shelter
          living inside your mind,
and you end up just being
     detached.
