The Carmelo Anthony Trade Saga

The Carmelo Anthony Trade Saga

A Story by Cody C

The Carmelo Anthony Trade Saga has been circling the news since the summer of 2010. In a nutshell Carmelo’s current team “Denver Nuggets”, have offered Melo a 3 year 65 million dollar contract extension due to his current contract that ends at the end of this year. However even with such a nice offer Anthony has decided to leave it on the table and explore other options. Melo wants to play for a team he can win with, and it is apparent after 8 years the Nuggets won’t be that team. The viewpoint of the front office of Denver wants to trade and get something out of Anthony instead of letting him walk away from the organization at the end of the season with no benefits. The Nuggets have been in contact with several teams since the beginning of the saga including the Chicago Bulls, Houston Rockets, New Jersey Nets, New York Knicks, and according to rumors the Los Angeles Lakers. There also have been rumors of three team trading deals including the Minnesota Timberwolves, New Jersey Nets, Cleveland Cavaliers, and the New York Knicks.

The Knicks seem like the likely candidate for landing the all-star forward. The Knicks are however very hesitant on trading for Melo due to the fact they’d have to give up their own key assets to require Anthony.
If the New York ends up coming away with him, they will no doubt be the next power house of the Eastern Conference. Already acquiring Amare Stoudemire in last year’s free agency class the Knicks are on the roll of greatness. If Carmelo plays there in my opinion The Knicks will be unstoppable in the east. With teams going with the new fad of teaming stars up with other stars “Boston Celtics, Miami Heat, Los Angeles Lakers”, it would be impossible to think that the Knicks wouldn’t be among the next elite starred up squads in the NBA.
