GuessA Story by contrary_canaryI short story about the loss of a loved and memories. Guess the places between right and wrong. Between black and white. Between up and down. Back and forth. You and me. Staring
down at photographs that I don't see, I've lost my self in memories of
summer skies and winter frost. Instead of hollow empty air I feel only
the sweet caress of your hands in my hair, your lips on mine. The grass
beneath my feet. Warm sun showcasing your smooth skin. The bitter chill
of snowy breezes as they enfold our forms.
I see no lonely, dust filled room. No, I see your smiling face, our
clasped hands, your bright eyes glittering even in the lowest lights.
The silence filled with echos of your
laughter, your voice. Long nights spent talking in low whispers. Days
where we never believed in anything but ourselves. We
were living in dreams of never being alone. Of always having someone to
hold at night. Of staying young and growing old. Never being anything
but happy. Together. But those dreams ended. They ended in a crash of noise. Of blinding pain. Of blistering bright light pulling you away. I watched them pull you away. Your body cold and lifeless; a petty copy of you and all you used to be.
I kissed your pale face at the funeral. Watched the casket close over
your beautiful face. Saw your empty shell lowered into cold ground. I watched my happiness and dreams disappear with you, held safe next to you in
your eternal sleep. Guess
the places between light and dark. Between hot and cold. Between
holding on and letting go. Breathing and drowning. Because I don't think
I can.
