Modern Torso of Apollo

Modern Torso of Apollo

Rilke's classic introspective summons gets an update.

Modern Torso of Apollo

You can imagine his head

though, right?

We’ve seen renderings

and more well preserved relics

of this god.

We are a little more horrified.

Murder and conquest

Doesn’t dazzle the way it used to.

He does seem defaced

Probably by Persians

or the proletariat.

That body was made in the kitchen!

Man cannot live on bread at all

and expect that definition.

Torso, listen,

“…here there is no place that does not see you.

You must change your life.”

Outside the Louvre there’s this gyro place I like.
