Relief from Love

Relief from Love

A Poem by Consuela Burke

The coat of day
Is much too bright
For the occasion of my life
All these technicolor horrors
Demanding light

For my eyes to rest upon myself
All glare must cease
Above me now is not one star
So I know peace

I find it more and more true
What Borges said:
The relief of sleep
Is to forget what we love

And so it must be with the dead.
