Adultery

Adultery

A Poem by Consuela Burke

I used to be a choice.
Your life had forked.
Down the road less traveled,
You heard my voice.
I don't know how.
But you listened, and you found
These delights laid on the ground: Victory over youth
That your prime is now

I stoked your every fire
Because it made my life
Irresistible

The point is
I never expected
To be chosen
(At the end of the path
There's only more path)
That was the illusion
The road less traveled
Leads back around
But what a hell of a diversion
