Chance

Chance

A Poem by Constance
"

A poem I started several months ago and just now finished.

"

Placed upon this twisted path by nothing more than happenstance

I wonder at the quick hands dealt, both cruel and wonderful by chance

Oh, today I saw a man who knew just who he had to be,

He said all men start equal... become cruel or wonderful by chance

And  I've found it to be true, a constancy within each man

To be, in turn, at moments, both cruel and wonderful by chance

Myself, I choose to never find the cruelty to be truth

I suppose that all yearn to be not cruel, but wonderful, by chance

I seek the wonderful and eschew the fruits more bitter

For life is a ride that we can take as cruel or wonderful, a chance...

A chance to learn, a chance to share, a chance to give

Of ourselves, both in cruelty and in wonder, just one chance...

Cruelty...I'm not sure that all desire to not be cruel. I think for some it is a deep-rooted within them.
"I seek the wonderful and eschew the fruits more bitter"..
that's the thing about being cruel or wonderful...you will know them by the fruit they bear. Very deep philosophical write. Exactly the kind of writing that I know you to produce. Well done,
Todd

You are so right... Humans are no cats with 9 lives, unless reincarnation really exists, we only have one life and one chance...

I am also convinced nobody desires to be cruel at heart, sometimes we have to be cruel to be kind as in the song. It is my believe every person, whether male or female has got both poles embodied.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts and philosophy!

Very nice, Constance, and true, of course. Like you, in matters of the heart, I never focused on the negatives--only the positives. The funny thing is, so I have found, is that sometimes it works against you, but not always. Sometimes the bitter fruit will ripen.
