Trust Me

Trust Me

A Poem by Constance
"

Just a quick spurt of free verse that wove itself onto the page

"

Silence is

the burden of truth betrayed

Passion in

the end is never a promise

Not everything

really happens with reason-

Yet the authors and poets will promise all,

Claim to betray the silence

with holy truths

And hold tight their passion,

without any end

While attempting to give reasons for everything

Humility can

be as ugly as vanity you know

Posession's not

a thing worth striving for at all

Not everything

comes to you with experience

Yet the leaders and saints will try to say

Vanity is the deadliest of sins,

humility pure

Keeping you down to the sorrow

of dispossession

While failing to teach, always expecting you to know

Knowledge is

not power, but how to spurn need of it

Reality is

not given to everyone in equal portions

Not everything

in this world is explicable with words

Yet the speech-makers and false? prophets will ever try

To make you believe knowledge

is only its own end

That reality is the same for everyone,

if you're sane

While vainly trusting they've said it all with only words

Question every

word you hear, and half of what you speak

Things aren't

always what they seem to be, losing in translation

You will never

know everything, but damned if you mustn't try

Yet the world will keep turning without any you or any we

Honestly, you shouldn't even trust

what I have to say

Only words, as actions I can't make

before your eyes

While sitting here vainly trusting I've shown you with words

I like the thoughts behind this one a lot. It's true, that people always think their way is the only, and people put a spin on things that reflect their view. I know I've done it before. I think we all have.

The part about humility and vanity made me laugh, because it reminded me of a book we read for class, "Catherine, Called Birdy." In it, some of the rules for being a lady are: "Don't be too proud." and "Don't be too humble, lest you seem proud of your humility." You've put a lot of interesting thoughts and prompts that really make you look at the world a different way. Thank you.

Wow C,

This is a wonderful poem. A kind of "slap you in the face" ride to reality. But a ride well worth taking.

is the question mark after "false" meant to be there? I can read it both ways and it works.

so true and well written-you'll find this no matter where you go in life-people always like it when you see things their way or write the way they like
