When You Make a Poet Fall in Love

When You Make a Poet Fall in Love

A Chapter by Constance
"

Just a light little verse with rhyme. Not intended to be scholarly or deep. It was shorter when I first posted it, and I've made it a little longer.

"

When you make a poet fall in love

You'd best be ready and prepared

For each and every tender thought,

Unabashedly and eloquently shared

When you make a poet fall in love

They're going to waste a lot of time

Etching out their feelings' proof

Perhaps in meter and in rhyme

When you make a poet fall in love

They'll  tell you what you long to hear

Even when they're too afraid

To whisper it into your ear

When you make a poet fall in love

It will be shown in more than verse

A poet's soul is full of passion:

Kisses or lines- a poet won't rehearse

When you make a poet fall in love

They'll savor every memory

And try to give it back to you

With more than soft, sweet poetry

When you make a poet fall in love

You've captured something rare

Brimming with wonderment and light

Heart, like mind, so driven to share

When you make a poet fall in love

Falling out is hard to make them do

For with each line they form resolve

That keeps their fair heart true

My friend, when a poet falls in love...

Make sure they fall in love with you

Author's Note

Constance
It was shorter when I first posted, though originally I'd thought to make it longer. I was afraid of dragging it out too far and grinding the idea into the dirt. Thank Frances for the addition of more verses. :)

God ... ... ... DAMN this is good! You are impressing me more and more with every new poem. I would like to make one small suggestion, however (because I'm like that, you know, I can't help it). Instead of the last line:
When you make a poet fall in love with you.
Try this on for size:
When you make a poet fall in love,
They fall in love with you.

Wow, this is awesome...just fantastic. This resonates with me, and makes me smile, because my sweetheart is also a writer. What a wonderful passion to share. I love your ending...very clever.

This was a great poem! Having a poet fall in love with you is a wondrous thing because of how well they can articulate their feelings for you. On the other hand break their heart and they'll tear you to ribbons in prose. I'd definitely like to see an answer to this poem about a poet falling "out" of love. That'd be interesting. Anyways, good flow. The rhymes didn't feel forced which is very important! If I had to make one suggestion though on the 4th line of the 3rd stanza I tripped a little over this line. "It into" felt a little awkward. I would suggest replacing the line with "To whisper it in your ear." Anyways great piece! I love it, seriously! I look forward to perusing more of your writings!

You hit that right on the nail! I never thought of my feelings being this way because Im a poet but because Im caring. Yet, this poem really hit me in the heart!!! I can relate 100 percent. The flow was great, the meaning was wonderful, and it was just an amazing poem altogether.

Hi C-,

I have read it and read it but given you did not meter it, I really don't have anything to suggest in the major body of it. I like the last line too but wanted to give you something to think about so here is a suggestion:

So make a poet fall in love...
fall in love with you.

I really like how you have it but wanted to give you something to think over.

Great write! So true!
I say a lot of things I struggle to say aloud through my poetry and do end up sharing intimate moments with whoever is willing to read.

When you make a poet fall in love
They'll savor every memory
And try to give it back to you
With more than soft, sweet poetry - loved this stanza.

Nice!

Ah, you made me fall in love with this little line.
Sweet and simple, and true for a warning to those
who would love a poet.

Sweet, The only complaint is that it was so short... I felt it could have been expanded on so much more but it was really wonderful thanks for sharing!
