Proud to serve on the Eagle of the Sea

Poem written while I was in the Navy and on this day I was proud of what I was doing and what my ship had been through over the years before me and long after me.

Old LHA-1, the first amphib

so many things this ship has did

 

Out on the seas for 30 years plus

you would think she was a big pile of rust

 

She still shines like the day she was crescened

you won't find any brass unshined or unbrightened

 

She carries 2000 Marines a 1000 Sailors and me

I'm proud to serve on the Eagle of the Sea

 

She launches helo's, LCAC's and harriers

we do things much like a carrier

 

30 plus years have come and gone

this ship will never do us wrong

 

Raise your glasses and say cheers with me

we should all be proud to serve on the Eagle of the Sea

Author's Note

This was something if I were to tell my shipmates that needed motivation, but it never was meant for anything, but to itch that creative bone I had at the time.

Often most writers don't write for anything more than to "itch that creative bone". You don't have to write to get it published in order to enjoy it or create a well done piece of work.

The only thing in this poem that irks me at all is the rhyme for the second line of the first stanza. I know why you put "did" but it's just kinda awkward. No big deal though.

I like that this feels almost like a drinking song to me. I can see you sitting around a crowd of guys singing this and giving a cheers at the end. Very well done :). There's so much to read between the lines of what you write. It's interesting.
