Tears and RecoveryA Poem by Connie HowellA poem about grief and sorrow turning into a strengthTears
flowed like a torrent, unstoppable. From
my cheeks to my chest The
walls of the dam breached. I
had no control of the sorrow. My
heart shattered, the pieces adrift. In
the ocean of my mourning It
wasn’t until my later years. That
I realized it wasn’t you that I mourned It
was the broken hopes and dreams. The
promises of a new life That
I cried for Bereft
of hope at the time of parting I
couldn’t see beyond the grief But
life has a way of renewing itself. And
I recovered stronger, and wiser. © 2023 Connie Howell |
