5.13.10A Poem by Collette Clark
It started with a fight
You were screaming at me About another night When I'd screwed you over Sorry, so sorry Those words leave my lips As we lay down together, I turn out the light Knowing in my heart That when I wake up, you'll be gone You're no longer here And I can't be there Wall after wall forms between us If I call your name It comes out a whisper Night after night, I sleep alone And tomorrow I'll try again Dreaming of you, hoping I'll find you by then You knocked on my door For the first time in nine years Looking so apologetic I knew you'd gone and done it again Why her? I must ask You'd played me to gain her Now that it's slapped me once more I'm not to sure I forgive you You're no longer here And I can't be there Wall after wall forms between us If I call your name It comes out a whisper Night after night, I sleep alone And tomorrow I'll try again Dreaming of you, hoping I'll find you by then So is this goodbye? For once and for never Tell me what it means to you When I tell you I love you He's always here You're always there Thousands of miles between us When I say your name It's always a whisper Because if he hears me, I'll sleep alone Tomorrow I won't try again Because of you, I won't give love a second chance © 2011 Collette Clark |
