Once Lovers

Once Lovers

A Poem by Collette Clark

It’s weird to think that we were once lovers, that being naked around you wasn't embarrassing, that sharing my future with somebody wasn't only a possibility but a plan. You gave a meaning to the love songs on the radio, a purpose to my smile, and a spring in my step. I can still smell you on my clothes, and hear your laugh, and picture the way you roll your eyes. Yes, it’s strange to think that we were once lovers, that there was any meaning to the love songs on the radio, that your laugh was ever something meant for my ears.
